The Olusegun Mimiko campaign Organisation on Monday lashed out at both Olusola Oke and Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) respectively in the October 20 election saying that they habour ill for the people of the State given their reckless utterances and predilection to destroy existing legacies in the State.
Specifically, the Organisation enjoined the people of Ondo State to reject the duo because both have no genuine plans for them but would take the fortunes of the State to the dogs if either of them is elected.
The Mimiko Campaign Organisation while giving this warning alerted that there were plans by each of these two candidates to destroy the massive developmental projects currently put in place all over the State by the Dr Olusegun Mimiko in the last three and a half years.
This it alleged was borne out purely out of spite and alarm at the continued soaring popularity of Governor Mimiko with a view to erasing the enormous gains to the State owing to the presence of these award winning developmental programmes.
The Organisation in Press Statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Media Relations, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi noted that utterances of the oppositions candidates in recent times have shown that they both harbour sinister motives for the people. Indeed, according to Olabisi, it was sad that Olusola Oke only last weekend vowed to, if elected, scrap amongst others, the world acclaimed Water Fountain in Akure, the Dew Spewer also in Akure and the Mega Primary Schools which had been lauded by the Federal Ministry of Education as not only the best in the nation but the first of its kind; the Ultra-modern markets, the novel Auto Mart, the ultra modern Mechanic Village amongst other projects which had attracted accolades from all over the world. Oke equally pledged to scrap the Democracy park where he held his declaration rally despite the fact that it was built by the Mimiko government because, according to him, was ‘a mere cosmetic project and not worthy of retaining’.
“Similarly, Akeredolu had lamented that the ultra-modern markets which our mothers and sisters now trade with all the modern comfort, comparable to any in the world, were drains on government purse and as such would be scrapped and privatised because government must plug leakages. He equally vowed to scrap the electrification of the most important road in Akure, the Oyemekun/Oba Adesida road for being powered at night with generating sets and replace it with lightning from PHCN.
“Akeredolu also, in publicly condemning the Free Shuttle buses Scheme for school children in the State, not only rubbished the programme but vowed to scrap it and divert the buses to money making ventures rather than wasting public funds to buy fuel for the Shuttle Scheme thus robbing the children of the poor of this wonderful initiative of the Olusegun Mimiko Administration,” the Organisation alleged.
It, therefore, noted that since it was obvious from the body languages and utterances of both Oke and Akeredolu in recent times, and given the fact that neither of them had any tangible issues to campaign with save to attack the person and personality of the incumbent Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, it was germane that the people of the State must be wary of them and give them a wide berth.
His words: “We want to say emphatically and without any iota of equivocation that Ondo State under Dr Olusegun Mimiko is working and to God be this glory. Mimiko has turned around the fortunes of Ondo State for good. And those who want to take Ondo State backward by several years and lead our librated and happy citizens back into slavery must be prevented by the electorate.
“Today, as indigenes of Ondo State, we can now say yes, and emphatically too, that we are from Ondo State, a real place of pride as opposed to what used to be the case because in the last three-and—a-half years, Mimiko has changed the face, the fortunes and the character of the State to one comparable to any in the world in so such a short time!
“And for those who were never part of us; those who want to lead us into second slavery in this 21st Century; those who wasted our resources on frivolous projects which were only seen on television stations and on pages of newspapers but never in reality, have mapped our this desperate measures to rig election at all cost and punish the masses. Being people of a proud heritage, we must resist them and never allow them to rape our collective commonwealth.
“While we wish to draw the attention of the good people of Ondo State to this imminent danger and a deliberate attempt to make life difficult for our people by those who were never part of us but who, out of their desperation to add Ondo State to their already flagging empire, are pretending to be saints with their poisoned chalice, we call for vigilance on the part of our people to reject them just like what our neighbours in Edo State did last month when they chased away the Goliaths in their midst,” Olabisi stated.
