Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun ton Wednesday called on established business enterprises, private individuals and governments at all level to support young entrepreneurs to harness their inbuilt talents and ingenuity for sustainable economic growth and development.

Mrs. Amosun said this while declaring open the first ever Ogun State Youth Trade Fair at the June 12 Cultural Centre, adding that the youth trade fair was designed to expand business and entrepreneurial opportunities that abound in the State.

She explained that the trade fair was a forum for the formation of new enterprises, an opportunity to enter into franchising partnerships with established firms, brand and outlets, and a medium to meet other stakeholders, noting that through this the youths could increase their chances of business survivals.

According to her,” the present administration in Ogun State believes that economic growth and development of any given society leads to wealth creation and this could be achieved only when the youths are opportuned to establish and display their abilities and capacities through entrepreneurship services.”

Mrs. Amosun added that the youth trade fair, which is holding between July 25 and 26, would provide the platform for the private sector, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders to identify the strength and weaknesses of youths and tap into the products and services they provide, thereby encouraging the youths to engage themselves in worthwhile entrepreneurship services rather than indulging in unproductive societal activities.

The wife of the governor charged the youths to explore the objectives of the fair and connect with other young entrepreneurs and key into values of fairness and equality that would further develop the economic growth in the State and Nigeria in general

Also speaking at the occasion, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Olugbenga Otenuga, assured of the state government’s determination to alleviate poverty among its people particularly the youths by creating a conducive environments for business to strife and support the youths to become employers of labour rather than job seekers.

He said the fair would among other things identify 15-20 young entrepreneurs from the state through an open and transparent process ‘Youth Fair’ for follow-up on the youth trade project by the MDGs office.

Highlights of the fair include poetry, tour of exhibition stands by Mrs. Amosun, workshops and syndicate sessions with the topic ‘Young People and the potentials for Global Business.’

Participants at the fair were drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State and beyond.
