Igbinedion University matriculates 624 for 2017/2018 academic session

Igbinedion University, Okada near Benin, on Saturday matriculated 624 newly admitted students for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, who addressed the students in Okada at the 19th matriculation, urged them to be of good behaviour.

He said that the students were admitted to study in the colleges of Medical Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Arts and Science.

The vice-chancellor said the other colleges for the new entrants were college of Engineering, Law, Natural and Applied Sciences as well Business and Management Studies.

He advised the students to judiciously utilise the opportunity of the admission to become better members of the society, as they commence a new phase of their academic lives.

Osaghae called on them to sustain the excellence recorded by past students in character and academic activities to emerge true professionals.

The vice-chancellor disclosed that new programmes would be introduced in the university, which are Public Health, Architecture, Education as well as Agriculture.

He said the institution in collaboration with a former national football player, Segun Odegbami would establish sports academy for the training of future national representatives in the commonwealth, Olympic Games and global competitions.

The matriculation lecture was delivered by Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) titled: “Financial Inclusion and Empowerment.

Ehiagiamusoe called for reduction in the gap of access to financial services through policy regulations and interventions.

He called for a review in the cooperative laws and regulations in the country. (NAN)
