Police arrest suspected ritualist in Anambra

WorldStage Newsonline-- Nigerian Police has confirmed that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Anambra State Command arrested one Chukwu Emeka Okafor male aged 26yrs at Ifite, Awka in Anambra State on the 22/8/2017 at about 1600hrs following actionable intelligence that in his desperation to get rich by all means offered three members of his families, including his father, brother and sister for the alleged ritual purposes.

A statement by CP Garba Baba Umar, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command said in addition to his family members, the suspect further printed five pictures of his Facebook friends and offered them for the alleged ritual purposes.

“Preliminary investigation further revealed that suspect obtained N100,000 from his father under false pretence that he will set up a business, unknown to the father that the money will be used to settle the “native doctor” for alleged money ritual of which the father himself is a victim,” the statement said.

Exhibits said to have been recovered from the suspect include; Eight photographs of victims, including three members of his family and five Facebook friends; Cash sum of N100,000.

The statement said, “Suspect has voluntarily confessed to the offense and is assisting the Police with useful information that could aid investigation after which he would be charged to Court for prosecution.   

“Meanwhile, all arrangements are put in place to ensure that the Gubernatorial primaries for all political parties which has since commenced are conducted hitch free. One major factor for the overall success of the exercise is the support of the good people of Anambra State who were observed to be extremely cooperative with the personnel of the security agencies. We are indeed in an era where community policing remains the vogue and the people we are serving continue to demand excellent service.”
