How long are your dreams?

"The first dream of the night is about 5 minutes long and the last dream you have before awakening can be 45 minutes to an hour long." It is estimated that most people have more than 100,000 dreams in a lifetime...” - Unknown

One school of thought believes that people who do not have dreams in life are most likely to find themselves wallowing in futility. This is means that such people are likely not to amount to anything in life, and may end up achieving nothing. Such people could as well be waiting on luck, chance, and any other natural phenomena that could help push them to the ladder of success.

It is true that for every element of success one must have luck and the support of a deity (I chose to say God), but it is equally important that one must have DREAMS.

I have started this write up with a simple but mind provoking question “how long is your dream”, and while I tried hard to answer this question, I came across this simple quote on Wikipedia about the natural dreams which I find captivating and I have therefore decided to analyse it into the real life dream that we are about to discuss.

First and foremost, let me say that by dreams in this text we are poised to understand the concept of visions, life’s goals, and aspirations. In a nutshell, what one intends to become in the future. In other word, we are looking at dreams as visions; I mean one’s achievable goals in life.

Going back to the context of the natural dreams as quoted above, I may well presumed that some of the nitty-gritties, especially, the concept of times as hypothesized in the quote are not to be ignored.  In real life dreams, one of the major factors to be considered is timing. Time, it is believed does not wait for any man. Time comes with different opportunities and if one does not quick grasps it, it may never be gained or re-gained again.

In 2005, I went to meet an uncle of mine in one of the major Federal government agencies in Nigeria concerning my challenge of getting job. However, he was not on sit. While I waited for him, one of the CEOs of a reputable bank passed by before my eyes. She greeted me, and said, “young man how are doing” I said, fine. While she said okay, and zoomed off into her car, it did not quickly occur to me that an opportunity had just presented itself for me to get an instant job. How time flies.

Time does not wait for anyone, and so also your dreams. Dreams could come in different dimensions and forms. It could come in a twinkle of an eye. It may last a minute, or a few moments, if one is lucky enough, it could last a great deal. However, what is most important is that one should not stop dreaming.

“The first dream of a night is 5 minutes...” This assertion from the quote above looks simple. No big deal. But one’s dream or vision could come in a short period of a flash. It may be at a time that one does not expect it. It might be while playing, at the dinning, relaxing or reading. One may be walking. One may be thinking. One may be doing one thing or the other. What I have noticed is that such dream is always powerful. It comes in a fully, fast and dynamic force. It could be there in the subconscious mind for a long time. It could be an answer to a nagging question. In whatever form it comes, it must be recognized without much ado. Have you ever experience such a moment before? How did you react? Was it a lost moment or captivated opportunity to launch yourself to the ladder of success?

Have you ever encountered a person known for his slow and steady approach to execute work or project? Such a person takes his time plan, organize, analyze and attack work as if it were not working at all. However, such a person has done his homework well. In fact, such a person fancies working, helping out people and does not leave any assignment given until completed. Such a person is well described by their dreams: the last dream you have before awakening can be 45 minutes to an hour long.  They know how to dream long dreams. They work out their sleeves.

In the game of soccer, the first 45 minutes is not as important as the last 45. After the interval, the manager must have noticed some errors and areas where he needed his team to adjust and improve. By the time they are back, they have a better picture of how to attack the opponent, defend the goalie, and score their goal. This illustration best describe those like to dream long within a medium or short term. They are winners who always love to go back to the drawing board.

Those who plan their work well enough are always winners. They see their next night as better opportunity to improve on their last night. They are always looking for areas of weaknesses to improve. They dream big. They know how to set goals and stick to it. They are the first to wake and the last to sleep. They life is their work. Their goal is to reach the finishing line. They do not jump process. They endure, and preserve in the face of challenges. They are consistent. They do not take no for an answer, and impossibility is the last word on their lips. They are the middle level managers in your office. Give them an assignment, they will achieve. They are the first at work, and always the last to close. They are champions. Yes champions.

Ideas rule the world! Everybody has got to be a dreamer. Either small dream or big dreams, you must have a dream. It must flow from the inside out. If a person has been said must dream at least 100,000 times in a life time, it means, you have great and mighty ideas and dreams in the inside of you. It means you have countless of eithers that could translate to wealth for you to sustain you for a lifetime. Guess what? You only need one of those dreams to achieve greatness. You can’t stop dreaming.

You can’t stop dreaming. You have the ability to connect your dreams in 5 minutes, and translate them to a late dreams, that is, short term dreams, and a life time dreams. It’s time to wake up, sleep late, and run through those dreams of yours.
